Dear Friends of Peter and Margaret,
As the academic year for 2011 draws to a close, with our graduation on December 16, we are very thankful to the Lord for sustaining us in the work he has given us to do. This semester I have been teaching two courses, Hermeneutics for Preaching that looks at the ways to interrupt every part of the Bible as it relates to Jesus Christ as the fulfilment of God's promises; and Counselling and the Local Church where we have looked at the place of a dedicated pastoral care ministry in local churches. Those who do this course often go on to develop counselling and effective care ministries in their local churches under the guidance and oversight of their pastoral leadership.
In addition to my teaching responsibilities at the College, I have been preaching Sunday nights at our church, working my way through the Gospel of Mark. This has been a delight to my own heart as I have connected again with the Lord Jesus Christ as the man from heaven who understands me and knows me, yet loves me without reservation, restraint, measure, or compulsion. I trust others have also been blessed.
Recently I had the opportunity to travel three hours out of town and preach for a college graduate who is church planting in Rotorua. It was a wonderful opportunity to encourage this man and his wife (Steve and Eva Panapa) in the very challenging ministry of starting a new work in a new place. They remain very committed to their calling, and are seeing fruit and growth in the work.
Margaret and I have experienced of late some very challenging marriage counselling situations. One couple was referred to us by their pastor. The wife in question claims she no longer loves her husband, but is willing to stay in the marriage even though she treats her husband like an unwelcomed boarder in the home. Another Christian couple have been separated for three months and have just recently come for counselling. It is more difficult to reconcile conflicted couples when they are no longer living together. They only talk to each other when they come to see us. Yet hope remains!
2001 has been a wonderful year of ministry blessing, and partnership with you all. We are very aware that your prayers have supported us, and have been a great encouragement to us. May your Christmas season be full of joy and gospel hope.
You are to give him the name Jesus because he shall save his people from their sins. (Matt 1:21., NIV).
You might pray with us:
Thank you all so much.
